Can someone advise as to how good MacCleanse is please, does anyone have/use it? Or is there a free application that carries out the same task?

Thanks

I don't know that much about MacCleanse but I haven't had good luck with Koingo Software. PM me and I'll give details. Other than wipes. I would think that Onyx or Maintenance would do most everything else. Then use Disk Utility for wipes. That might cover most of it, FREE.

MacJanitor http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html is also simple and free. I personally use the widget Maintidget http://www.giantmike.com/progs/Maintidget.zip which is also free and runs as a widget in the background.

I was reading the information on the MacJanitor page and it occurred to me that Mac OS X does most of this stuff anyway. All the programs we are talking about here do to some extent the same stuff. True enough that Unix was originally written to run certain maintenance scripts overnight. As of OS X they run whenever the computer is up but idle. Someone else might be able to give a better description but I think it works like this. Lets say that it's time for script "A" to run. Your busy and hard at work on that important theses for school (read video game). The script waits in the background. You decide to go out for a bite to eat (read go to the bar). You leave your computer on so the script runs while your having your bagel and Cappuccino (read shots and more shots).

I'm going to say that Onyx is all you need. It is plenty redundant on these and I think does pretty much everything else you need. FREE

Most utility programs, (maybe all?), on Mac and Windows machines are mere liaisons to functions anyone can do. Some of us aren't code lovers. (Scilicet, moron—me.) So it's really a matter of what liaison handles your wanted functions.

I've never found one fix it all. So I use Onyx and Terminal...at the worst of my inability! Wink

jaratr - I do use Terminal, problem is, I do not fully understand what it is telling me. Same with Onyx, apart from using it to repair permissions I am reluctant to "take a chance" as I feel I would end up doing more harm than good lol!

Yes, I am taking the tutorials and still learning, hence the question, hoping that something like MaCleanse would help me in the transition to awareness Smile

Peace all and good health
