Ok, I use Time Machine with a Lacie to back everything up, just in case!

My problem is that I hear something else working in the background that is, I believe, slowing things up, I know it's not my Lacie!

Is there a way that I can see and view exactly what is working in the background on my Mac?

That if there is anyone out there to answer my query

Thanks folks Very Happy

Have you tried running Activity Monitor? It will show everything active
It's included in the Utility Folder

Thank you qweeptish, yes I have tried Activity Monitor but unsure of what the results are telling me. Is there a tutorial for newbies?

I have a kernel task indicated that seems to be very active it reads:

Parent process: kernel task (0)
Process Group : kernel_task (0)
%CPU 0.53
CPU time 27.08

Mach messages in and out seem huge.

Appreciate any help Very Happy

Backups can slow things down depending on what is being backed up at that moment. Netflix streaming, quicktime and an Antivirus set for realtime scanning can cut speed markedly

If you open activity monitor and click the menubar Help/Activity Monitor Help you'll find many answers
