When I download a pdf file and attempt to open it up - I get the following message. "You can't open the application Adobe Reader.app because it is not supported on this type of Mac." ??

It sounds like you may have an older version of Reader installed. You could download a current version from Adobe or do what I do and bypass Adobe altogether. Select any PDF file on you Mac and then "cmd + I". Toward the bottom you will see a pull down menu that ask open with. Choose preview and then click the "change all" button. Now all PDFs will open in Preview. It's much faster and smother than Reader anyway.
